About Houser

Houser

I wish I could tell you that I have been shooting since an early age, encouraged by my family of relatives who were passionate about photography and pushed a camera in my hand at the age of six. Sadly, that's not the case. While my father did work for Olympus and I would marvel at my grand parent's Minolta from time to time, I never took any interest in photography. In fact, images of myself and my brother at a young age are rare (and so terribly embarrassing).

I was, however, born wired to create. From the time I could hold a pencil, I was drawing incessantly. Fixated on graphic design. I painted. I sculpted. I drew. I actually scoffed at photography as not being one of the "Fine Arts". My thinking was that photographers didn't have to expend any effort. They simply showed up, pointed their camera in the general direction and pushed a button. It wasn't until into my adulthood that I purchased a small point & shoot digital camera to capture images of my beloved hound dogs, that it hit me. And I haven't been able to stop since.

Photography is now my way of life. My brain has found the drug it has so long sought for it's creative urges. If I'm not actively creating images, my brain is working on new ones. My passion for photography has allowed me to meet an amazing array of other creative individuals, travel to other countries, make life-long friends, laugh, cry, and grow as an individual. I'm both challenged and satisfied that this endeavor has only a journey. There is no end point where one can look around and say "I've reached the top and can learn nothing more". I create as many poor images now as when I first started. It's simply that I believe my good images are so much better than those first frames that impressed me.

Where are your images taken?

Most of my images are captured in New England, USA. I have also taken some images up and down the Eastern seaboard, as well as abroad in the UK and France.

Do you only shoot landscapes? I have seen some other work by you.

In fact, I shoot a few different subjects, including Fine Art, Portraiture, Weddings, and Commercial. I have been recognized for my studio lighting techniques and teach courses on the subject.
